First Reconciliation
Your Child’s First Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is a powerful sign of God's mercy and love for each of us.

It is typically first received in second grade but can be celebrated at any time. Reconciliation is required before receiving First Holy Communion. Preparation begins in second grade. Children preparing for the sacrament will use the Blessed: First Reconciliation program, which includes engaging lessons, stories, and videos to help them understand the beauty of God's forgiveness.  First Reconciliation is celebrated in January during the second grade year. Children must be registered for sacramental preparation through Mary, Mother of God AFC.

2nd Grade First Reconciliation Parent Meetings
Parents/guardians of 2nd grade students preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation are required to attend one of the following parent meetings:
  • Option 1: Wednesday, October 1, 2025 – 5:45 p.m. at Carlin Hall, Holy Redeemer Church, Marshall
  • Option 2: Wednesday, October 8, 2025 – 6:15 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall, Tracy
Please note: This meeting is for parents/guardians only. Youth do not attend.
What will be covered:
  • Overview of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and expectations
  • Walkthrough of the preparation process and timelines
  • Parent/guardian responsibilities and how to support children at home
  • Review of the “Blessed” materials
  • Important dates for First Reconciliation
  • Information about the First Reconciliation Retreat
Once the Sacrament of Reconciliation is completed, details for First Communion will be shared at a later date.
